Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. [7][8] She was raised in Barcelona and has been described as an "atypical popstar" due to her various musical styles. 9 years ago, at the age of 13, she fell an obsession with Spanish folk music and enrolled in musicology at the Catalonia College of Music. She also performed at weddings as well as music bars. Reimagining flamenco by mixing it with pop and hip hop music, it spawned the singles "Malamente" as well as "Pienso in Your Mira" which attracted the attention of the Spanish general public, and were released to universal critical acclaim. El Mal Querer was the first to introduce Rosalia onto the international stage. In the year 2019, Billboard gave her the Rising Star Award for "changing the current sound of mainstream music by introducing a fresh, flamenco-inspired pop",[18and she was the first act from Spain ever to be recognized as the the Best New Artist award at the Grammys
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Her family has no artistic background She is the eldest daughter of Pilar Tobella, a businesswoman who owns a small company focused on metalwork. Jose Manuel Vila was her father. He was born in Cudillero (Asturias). They divorced in 2019. The older sister, Pilar Vila ("born 1989") is her stylist and creative mind. Rosalia became interested in the performing arts in her early years and was particularly interested when she came across the discography by Camaron de la Isla. Her musical education began at the Taller de Musics [es]. [24] She did an eight-year program at the academy. She began attending class at the Raval school and later moved to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia.
