Despacito is a 2017 song that was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the single that became the most streamed track across the globe within six months. It was a combination of reggaeton and pop which not only brought attention to Latin Music but also reggaeton. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs mostly in Spanish by 2016 compared to two in 2015. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017 however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 of them. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito was released in the year. After that, some of the most pop stars began to collaborate with reggaeton singers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny for MIA (2018) in addition to Madonna was a part of Maluma for the release of Medellin. By 2020 a few reggaeton performers were lamenting its inclination towards mainstream, but a new generation namely Rauw Alejandro, aimed to continue the evolution of reggaeton. Rauw Alejandro incorporated electronic dance forms as well as other styles into his music.
